"My teeth were okay overall but had a gap between my teeth that bothered me. I always thought it was too noticeable and it made me self-conscious. Dr. Patel quickly and gently filled the space with bonding, and to make things even better, he also whitened my smile. Not only do my teeth feel good now- I love not thinking about or feeling that gap-but my smile also looks great and the procedure was really comfortable. I would definitely recommend this procedure to anyone… and I would recommend this office too. they are all so nice and friendly and the office location is very convenient."

What to Expect When You Visit Our Office
Your initial consultation will be complimentary and will consist of reviewing your completed sleep study results and discussing your dental appliance options based on a thorough examination of your teeth, mouth, TMJ and with the possible need for x-rays of your jaw joints. It will also consist of impressions/dental molds and photos, from which you may be fitted with a dental appliance, if chosen to do so.
At your next visit, we will choose an appliance based on our examinations. We will show you how to place the appliance in your mouth, how to care for it and how to use it. We will check with you in a few weeks to make sure you are comfortable with your appliance and wearing it regularly. To ensure that the device is actually effective in treating your snoring or sleep apnea condition, it is possible that we will be referring you back to your physician or sleep specialist for a follow-up sleep lab.
We will then see you at regular intervals several months apart to maintain and to adjust the appliance, when necessary, so that it remains effective.
Schedule an Appointment
If you suspect that you have sleep apnea, or if your spouse notices that you have stoppage of breathing, gasps, choking and snorting, then you should be in contact with the appropriate physician and/or sleep specialist. For help in finding the correct sleep specialist in your area to help with these sleeping disorders, you may contact our office for referrals.
If you desire Austin Snoring Treatment, either as a new patient or as a patient in which all other procedures have failed, and you wish to try a dental sleep appliance, please contact our office. We will work with you, your physician and the sleep center in properly fitting and fabricating your dental appliance.

Studies have shown that advancing the mandible (lower jaw) with dental seep appliances may provide relief from snoring by physically pulling the tongue forward and out of the airway. As simple as this would appear, there are a number of significantly relevant ideas that enter into this picture. An appliance needs to be fabricated that will be worn every night that will not compromise the TMJ, the teeth or the soft tissue. It will be easy to keep bacteria-free and will not disturb your sleep partner, all while remaining comfortable for the wearer.
The appliance that we use which meets all of the criteria that has been mentioned for an ideal appliance is called SomnoDent ® MAS.
SomnoDent ® MAS Features and Benefits of the SomnoDent ® MAS include:
- Permits normal mouth opening and closing
- Allows speech and drinking
- Unrestricted tongue space
- Full lip-seal
- Easily adjustable
- Safe and effective
- Clinically validated
What is the SomnoDent ® MAS
The SomnoDent ® MAS is a Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS) that treats mild, moderate and severe OSA by moving the lower jaw slightly forward. This movement tightens the soft tissue and muscles of the upper airway, which prevents obstruction while you sleep. The SomnoDent ® MAS also prevents the tissues of the upper airway from vibrating as air passes over them, which is the major cause of snoring.
The SomnoDent ® MAS is comfortable and easy to wear. The appliance uses the least amount of material possible, reducing bulkiness in the mouth. It is made up of two separately constructed pieces, which allows you to speak, yawn and drink. The design does not limit tongue space which results in a high comfort level with the SomnoDent ® MAS.
The SomnoDent ® MAS is a highly effective solution, for the majority of patients suffering from OSA. Its exceptional levels of patient acceptance and compliance as well as treatment efficiency are backed by numerous counts of clinical research, which can be found at somnomed.com.
Customization and Durability
The SomnoDent ® MAS is a custom-made appliance with a number of key features that are significant improvements from other oral appliances. Consisting of upper and lower dental plates with a unique patented fin-coupling component, the SomnoDent ® MAS permits normal mouth opening and closing. The appliance also provides adjustable level of lower jaw advancement. This improves the comfort and effectiveness of treatment, as the jaw is moved only as far as is required to treat the condition.
The SomnoDent ® MAS is made from premium materials to ensure durability. Each appliance is manufactured in a FDA registered facility under quality systems designed to meet FDA requirements. Your SomnoDent ® MAS will pass a quality check to guarantee that you are receiving a custom appliance made to your Doctor’s specification. The SomnoDent ® MAS comes with a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects. However, proper care and maintenance of your appliance should result in a long life of comfortable and effective use.

Sometimes users report problems like claustrophobia, nasal congestion, headaches, bloating, noises and tube interference when using a CPAP machine. In these instances the use of a dental oral appliance is a great option to help treat those with sleep apnea. Studies have shown that advancing the mandible (lower jaw) with dental sleep appliances may provide relief from snoring by physically pulling the tongue forward and out of the airway. This forward movement of the tongue tightens the soft tissue and muscles of the upper airway keeping the airway clear while you sleep. When this soft tissue is tightened the air that passes over cannot cause any vibrating and eliminates loud snoring.
Dental sleep appliances are unique, custom-made devices that consist of upper and lower dental plates and allow for normal opening and closing of your mouth. They are also adjustable which makes them comfortable, and unlike the CPAP, they are noiseless, they are easy to wear, and discreet. Many users of the device have reported a better night’s sleep and effective results. Dental sleep appliances are also easy to keep bacteria-free and will not disturb your sleep partner, all while remaining comfortable for you, the wearer.
Sleep apnea is also not age specific. It can affect anyone from childhood up to old age. Both men and women can develop sleep apnea, but it is more common to men; particularly middle-aged, overweight men. A recent study shows that 34% of men are habitual snorers, while 50% report occasional snoring.
Some other symptoms of sleep apnea can include: instances of irritability, short temper, trouble with concentration or memory, lethargy, anxiety, depression, frequent nightmares and sexual dysfunction. There are also indications that high blood pressure, with the added risk of heart attack and stroke may be attributed to snoring and sleep apnea.

"My teeth were yellow! I had terrible stains and I really wanted a brighter, whiter smile. I am a pediatric dentist so I am careful about my teeth, but I have known Dr. Patel for a long time. He is a very good person with good ethics so I knew that when it was time to have cosmetic work done, I could completely trust him. He recommended Zoom!® to brighten and whiten my teeth. What a great choice! I wanted instant results and Zoom! provided me with them. I was never apprehensive because Dr. Patel made sure I was comfortable. Now I have beautiful white teeth – everyone always says that my smile is so white and bright. When I wear red lipstick, my teeth do not look yellow. I feel as if I look younger and my teeth certainly look healthier! Thanks Dr. Patel!"

Snoring may also be a sign of Sleep Apnea (OSA) in which you actually stop breathing at times during the night, which can be a very serious health condition. The multiple pauses in breathing can last anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds per incident, up to 7 minutes over the course of a single night.

There’s so much to celebrate and strive for in this upcoming year. With everything that’s going on in the world and the stresses of the economy it’s easy to neglect our health. It’s also easy to just put off taking care of ourselves. Stress and neglect is a harmful combination. We should be thinking the opposite during these difficult times.
The Lakeway dentist emphasizes that you actually have to take even better care of ourselves and prevent any deterioration of our health. Remember, if you get sick because you’re not taking care of yourselves, then you may have to miss additional and unexpected time away from work. That’s not very beneficial in these times. Also, if there was dental care that has been festering, left untreated this could cause a dental emergency and again, unexpected and unplanned time away from work.
These issues that could be prevented now could interrupt your work schedule and cause inconveniences. Also in these times when job stability is uncertain, it may be beneficial to use your dental benefits while you have them. Especially if you currently have a good plan, because it may change for the worse. So if you have care that was recommended it’s easier to address now and be preventative versus waiting for a problem to occur. If you do, you’re risking needing time away from work and needing additional procedures that could cost more in the long run.
Also, if you’re in the job market, it’s a great time to consider improving your smile. Not only is your smile one of the first things people notice about you, it says alot about you to other people. If you’re interviewing consider laser whitening to give you more confidence in your smile. Porcelain veneers, lumineers, invisalign or updating old dental work are also some ways to give you a better smile too.
Another technology the cosmetic dentist in Lakeway ,TX will be utilizing this year is cerec. This technology enables us to make porcelain crowns and fillings in one visit instead of two. What a time saver!
We also have a special for the zoom whitening at $425 that we will continue for the new year. We’ve had a great response to it from last year, so we decided to continue it this year.
Also, we just wanted to say thank you all for continuing to help our Lakeway dental practice grow each year. We are so lucky to have so many wonderful guests and friends of the practice. We are always welcoming new guests so please continue to keep us in mind for those who are in need of a dentist in Lakeway, TX.
